5 Amazing Resources for the Spiritually Mismatched

I know that being spiritually mismatched in a relationship can be very challenging, and sometimes downright frustrating!

I was thinking of those of you who are spiritually mismatched today and wondered if you might be in need of some resources to support you in this journey of being spiritually mismatched. But, before I give you a list of recommended resources, I want to be sure you know exactly what I  mean when I say spiritually single. Check out my article on defining a spiritually single woman: Defining the Spiritually Single Woman, Part 1: God’s Definition, and then come back to this resource guide.

Alright, now that you have a clear picture, let’s get you right to the resources! These are resources I personally recommend. These are affiliate links, so if you want more information about what that means, go to my Disclaimer Page.

Surviving a Spiritual Mismatch in Marriage

by Lee and Leslie Strobel.

In their intensely personal and practical book, they reveal:* Surprising insights into the thinking of non-Christian spouses* A dozen steps toward making the most of your mismatched marriage* Eight principles for reaching out to your partner with the gospel* Advice for raising your children in a spiritually mismatched home* How to pray for your spouse–plus a 30-day guide to get you started* What to do if you’re both Christians but one lags behind spiritually* Advice for single Christians to avoid the pain of a mismatch.

Why I recommend this book:

Simply put: I recommend this book because of what you just read above. It covers so many important topics that spiritually single woman can relate to. It’s a great read for those who are currently married to an unbeliever, a rebellious Christian, or even to the woman who is not married yet. A great resource!

Winning Him Without Words: 10 Keys to Thriving in Your Spiritually Mismatched Marriage

by Lynn Donovan and Dineen Miller

The spiritually mismatched are those who are committed to a spouse who does not share their faith. Feeling abandoned by their spouse and forgotten by their church, they live out their faith in survival mode, guarding the spiritual flame yet never feeling free to share it. But God wants them to thrive–not just survive.
Winning Him Without Words
presents ten Christ-centered keys to thriving in a spiritual mismatch.

Why I recommend this book:

This book gave me a different perspective on what it meant to be in a spiritually mismatched marriage and how I should treat my marriage. I often felt, and still do at times, that I’m responsible for my husband’s relationship with Christ. But, that simply isn’t true. This book gave me comfort in knowing that I do have a responsibility in my mismatched marriage, but maybe not what I thought it was.

A great read for wives who feel they are responsible for their husband’s salvation.

When He Doesn’t Believe: Help and Encouragement for Women Who Feel Alone in Their Faith

by Nancy Kennedy

If you love a man who is not committed to Christ, you may feel frustrated, guilty, or anxious; discouraged and lonely. You likely worry about how your husband’s beliefs–or lack of them–will affect your children. Perhaps you, like so many women, have tried to “help” your husband find or deepen his relationship with God–only to find that you have, unbelievably, pushed him farther away. You may be wondering, “What do I do now?” Or, worse, you may have lost all hope. God is still in control.

Why I recommend this book:

This is a great book because it comes from a woman who’s been there. She knows exactly how you feel and probably has asked many of the same questions you have.

This is a great read if you need some empathy and hope.

Not Alone: Trusting God to Help You Raise Godly Kids in a Spiritually Mismatched Home

by Lynn Donovan and Dineen Miller

Moms who are the sole spiritual leader in their home wonder if their influence is enough to impact the spiritual lives of their children. Not Alone is encouragement and wisdom for spiritually mismatched moms, whether they are married to a non-Christian, single, divorced, or navigating the challenges of a blended family. It is possible to raise children who have a vibrant relationship with Christ. Their insights and stories will help mothers understand how God helps moms do their part and can trust him to do his. Plus, Not Alone includes practical steps to instill children with faith.

Why I recommend this book:

Well for one reason, it’s from the same authors as Winning Him Without Words (see above). However, that’s not the only reason. This book is jam-packed, full of great resources to help you raise your children the way God wants them to be raised despite your husband’s lack of faith. Not only is the main content of this book amazing, but the appendices are just as amazing and helpful. You can’t go wrong with this book.

Unequally Yoked? A Guide to Friends, Dates and Mates

by Tim TK Lewis

Relationships can be challenging. In this book, you will discover how God Himself cares about your personal relationships. Whether choosing a bride or groom, a date, trusted friend, or even a business partner, God desires to be involved in your relational decisions. Unequally Yoked? A Guide to Friends, Dates and Mates will help you learn to make better relationship decisions that will cause you grow and enjoy the peace that comes from good relationships in every area of your life.

Why I recommend this book:

I haven’t read this book or know much about it, but it looked like a good resource for singles as well as those in close relationships. As I looked through the book on Amazon, I liked the guidelines this book offered. Something to consider when it comes to the matters of the heart.

So there you have it. I know this is a small sample of books that are out there available to you, but this list is comprehensive. I think you’ll find a resource from this list as a perfect source to learn more about living a life as spiritually single. Most importantly, I pray that it gives you peace.

My Favorite Posts in 2017 and Beyond

This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please read my Disclaimer.

2017 has been an interesting year for me personally. I started this blog November 2016, and my writing dream is slowly coming to fruition. This year, I was able to write and publish two journals (see below) and am looking to the near future for my next writing expedition.

If you are a subscriber of my weekly emails, I want to say thank you. I hope to reach many more subscribers in 2018.

As I reflect on 2017 and beyond when it comes to this blog, I wanted to share some of my favorite posts (in no particular order).

February 2017 I wrote an article on what many women wish they could do: change their husbands in my article,

How To Change Your Husband.

It’s not quite what you think though.

How to change Your Husband

I also wrote a quick quiz in February to help you get a sense of where your faith is and how to improve it. You can take the quiz here if you haven’t yet.

Quick Quiz

I have a heart for Christian teen girls and the struggles they face, so I enjoy writing articles for them. I wrote a series on purity starting with Part 1: Purity: It’s Not What You Think.

Purity, It's Not What You Think

Another series I wrote was one of my first articles for Christian teens at the start of my blog. Who Am I? explores who we are in God’s eyes.

My heart also relates to spiritually single women, as I am one, and so I wrote this first series, Defining The Spiritually Single Woman.

What exactly is a spiritually single woman? The Bible has a clear definition of what it means to be unequally yoked in a relationship.

The Lies You Believe

The Lies You Believe

This post may contain affiliate links. Read more on my disclaimer page.

Lies You Believe

Satan uses his deception to sneak up on us and get us to believe his lies. We need to take a closer look at this because he's so sneaky that we might not realize what's going on.

We need to be able to analyze our thoughts and compare those to God's Word which is the opposite of lies; it's truth

So, let's compare truth and lies first and then we'll go from there. Make your own comparison list and then match it up with mine.

  • God's Word
  • The Holy Spirit
  • Jesus and his crucifixion and resurrection
  • Salvation through Christ

  • Satan's word
  • Satan=father of lies

Honestly, I can't think of anything else. It's as simple as this.

We either believe God's Word, or we believe Satan's lies.

So, now we need to know how to determine whether we believe the truth or the lies. How do we do that?

Get out your Bible.

Compare your thoughts to the Bible.

What does God say about what you're thinking/ feeling?

How does that compare to what you're believing? If it aligns with God's Word, it's truth. If it doesn't, it's lies.

To help you out a little, here are some common lies we tend to believe and the reference you should look up in your Bible to contradict the lie. Meditate and memorize it. Post it everywhere so you remember it everytime that lie comes sneaking back up into your life.

  1. You are and never will be good enough. (1 Peter 2:9, Romans 5:8)
  2. This is impossible. (Matthew 19:26, Mark 9:23b)
  3. I am a failure. (Psalm 139: 13-18, Philippians 4:13)

Do some more research to find more verses that show how

God's Word destroys Satan's lies.

Pray and ask God to help you remember these truths and ask for forgiveness for believing the lies.

Remember, you are good enough, you are loved beyond imagination,

and you can do anything in Christ according to God's will.

Fighting Within

Fighting Within

Take a look at the photo above. What do you notice about it?

I notice the separation of the light and the dark at the top, the thunderstorm clouds building below, and the brilliance of the sun to the left.

What does this have to do with anything? I see some connection to our spiritual battle we endure. The light, of course, representing God, and the dark, the enemy. Take a close look at the clouds again.

Take a moment to write down your noticings. Let’s see if you noticed things I did and how that relates to today’s topic.

My noticings:

  1. There are lots of clouds.
  2. They’re piling on top of each other.
  3. There are clouds within the darkness.
  4. There are clouds within the light.
  5. Some of the clouds are in both light and darkness.
  6. It looks like the light is breaking through the dark.

Did you have any of the same answers?

Ok, so what does this have to do with the topic of Fighting Within?

I see this as a spiritual battle. But the battle is in the clouds. The clouds are from the same “family” which when I think about fighting within, it could mean our earthly family, but it also means our spiritual family–the body.

I’ve been doing an online Bible study of Beth Moore’s When Godly People Do Ungodly Things:  Arming Yourself in the Age of Seduction. She mentions in week 6, day 1 that

” the very nature of a satanic scheme is that it is secretive and cunning. It is meant to trap the unsuspecting.”

I never thought about it, but this made me think that the Body of Christ can be used as a satanic weapon against itself. We sin against each other through gossip, through disagreements that separate us rather than unite us,  and it dishonors God. There are all kinds of ways that fighting within the Body of Christ is a way for Satan to attack.

We can’t allow that.

If the body fights within, it will become sick and even possibly die.

That’s exactly what Satan would want! That’s his whole purpose is to separate us from the light, from God.

So, what are we to do?

  1. Look within ourselves first and ask God to show us any way we sin against the body.
  2. Ask for forgiveness from God and anyone we’ve done wrong.
  3. Pray, pray, pray. Prayer is the ultimate weapon against the enemy. Among many things, “prayer brings the part of the body interceding into agreement, thereby strengthening the power of prayer. Prayer guards hearts and minds and causes God to bring peace out of the chaos. Prayer also “bind[s] the enemy.” (Beth Moore’s study mentioned above, pg. 126.)
  4. We need to intercede in prayer for one another. Find someone who will intercede for you and for whom you can intercede.

Satan will use whatever weapon he can, including the church, the body, the believers, and the unbelievers. More than ever do we need to stand strong against him, come together as one body, and increase our knowledge and protect ourselves with the armor of God.

We will win.

It has been written.

Revelation 12:10-11New Living Translation (NLT)

10 Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,

“It has come at last—
    salvation and power
and the Kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.[a]
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters[b]
has been thrown down to earth—
the one who accuses them
before our God day and night.
11 And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb
    and by their testimony.
And they did not love their lives so much
that they were afraid to die.
